Produced by the Taiwanese company Wu Chung, specializing in Seitan processing. Its products are such good imitations that they are sometimes called "wheat meat".
This spicy product is pre-cooked gluten-based food that is suitable for both vegetarians and vegans. It is made from wheat gluten (also known as seitan), which means it has a high protein content, with added oil, sugar, soy sauce, and salt. The artificial chicken gains flavor by stewing the gluten in soy sauce and other spices, which in turn gives it a distinct "pulled" texture. Canned artificial chicken is the most common way to purchase this product. Provided you do not have celiac disease or gluten intolerance, you can safely eat it.
